Call or text (337) 282-8703 if you're interested in an evaluation, and I can give you instructions on how we can communicate on a secure platform.Feeding therapy and OT services require a referral for OT, or for evaluation and treatment of feeding or breastfeeding. Referrals usually come from your pediatrician, but can also come from a dentist, nurse practitioner (NP), or physician assistant (PA).Referrals may be faxed to (337) 918-3249.When I receive a referral, I usually contact the family within 24 hours with instructions on how to schedule if they’d like to, even if they haven’t reached out to me yet.Once we’ve connected, I’ll send intake paperwork and consents by email. This paperwork must be completed before your appointment is finalized, and completing it thoroughly helps save time in the evaluation.
You want the provider with the best skill set to meet your needs. I can provide both lactation support and therapy intervention under one roof, which may minimize your need to schedule visits with multiple providers.Not all providers are created equal. OT is a broad profession covering the lifespan. Not all therapists are comfortable with feeding (particularly infant feeding), and most are not comfortable with lactation. If I'm not the best therapist for you, I can offer guidance on others who have the skill set you need.
The vast majority of my practice is infants. To accommodate a heavy infant referral load, I refer out children over age 2. I'm always happy to guide families to other referral options, and we have amazing options here in our community.

Yes. Telehealth has some limitations and does not replace a direct exam. It doesn't let me weigh a baby or do a weighted feed, and other aspects of the evaluation can be more challenging in a virtual context.Telehealth may be covered by your insurance company, but this varies from plan to plan. You're encouraged to call your insurance company to ask about your benefits for occupational therapy on a telehealth platform.To participate, you'll need:Internet access with video and a microphoneTo download Spruce, an app for secure video visits. I'll send it to all families using telehealth.
Evaluations are generally 90 minutes, but may run longer or shorter depending on complexity. Treatment sessions and follow-ups are 45 minutes to 1 hour.
How often therapy is recommended depends on the complexity of your child's situation. I see children weekly, multiple times a week, or consultatively. Consultative services are often used when strong progress is likely with a home program alone. Weekly sessions may be a better option for babies with difficulties in more than one area. The vast majority of my clients are short term, and return for follow-ups every 1–2 weeks depending on the nature of concerns and our plan of care.
Every child is on their own timetable. Some make fast progress, and others need a longer time. Investing in your home program is important. My job is to teach you how to carry over treatment strategies as often as possible in your daily routine.
I do not offer clinical advice by phone, for a few reasons:It is far too easy to miss something crucial in a quick phone conversation, which could lead to me giving you bad advice. The help and guidance I provide is very nuanced and tailored to your unique circumstances. I simply cannot give the best care without taking a thorough history and getting a sense of the full picture.Often what feels like a simple, short question is anything but simple. There are at least 10 reasons a mother might have low milk supply, for example. A detailed assessment is how we break it down and figure out the root cause, and that's just hard to do on a quick phone call.
